“Phil your print cover looks weird!”

Yes, it looks weird, but here’s why…Imagine you're making a lovely quilt. For an ebook cover, it's like a small, simple patchwork piece that fits right in the middle of a cushion—everything is neat and centered.

But when we're making a cover for a physical book, like a hardback or paperback, it's a bit like sewing a quilt that needs to wrap all around a pillow. To make sure it fits perfectly and doesn't look uneven, we add a bit of extra fabric on the edges. This extra fabric is like the borders I have to design on the book cover so that when the printer folds it around the book, everything important—like the title and your name—still shows up right where they should.

In this video, I show how these extra borders are needed and how they differ from a simpler ebook cover. This helps avoid problems with printing and ensures that everything looks just right. Understanding this can save us both a lot of time and make sure the book looks exactly as you’d hoped, less back and forth's means I don’t have to increase the service price as much
